I'm finally a Poolee! Shipping 20080811.

I'm open contract right now, but my recruiter is trying to snag a spot with an intelligence MOS for me.

Whoo!

Congrats Parks. How was your MEPS experience? Make sure you get that contract sorted out before you ship too.

Just curious, why are you shipping so late?

well, good to go! Intelligence huh? well let me let you in on a little secret. just hold out for a ship date that allows you to have the MOS you want. don't fall for any of those, there are no penings right now. just tell em you wanna wait until there IS an opening then.

MEPS could've been worse. My roomie (Navy applicant) decided she wanted to set the alarm for three in the morning so she could primp, so that was a wee bit earlier than I had thought I was getting up. Security was intense (but I think that was somewhat because I was in the OK City Federal Building). There were about 25 of us, but only four girls. One Navy, two Army/Nation Guard, and me. Lost one right off the bat, lost one for weight issues, and the last one didn't finish because she admitted she had just gotten a traffic ticket. I did almost faint when they kept sticking me with needles because they couldn't find a vein they liked, but I can proudly say I did not hit the floor.

I think my recruiter is sorting out the contract issues this week since his Gunny is up here anyway on business.

Why the late ship? I have braces and they wanted to give me a month or so after I get them off to let my teeth set. Apparently I can change it if I feel just a deep desire to ship in the middle of June, but I'd rather miss the big high school rush.

I do feel kind of bad for my recruiter, because apparenty the Marines at MEPS have something against him and would call him every-so-often and tell I had been DQed for drugs/medical/pregnacy. (I'm happy to say that he did stop believing them on the fourth call. lol)

That reminds me of when I turned in my background check, went to MEPS for the ASVAB, and one of the recruiters told me, "Hey! Mike! You know you have a record? Do you know anything about assault on a child?" :D

lol Yeah. I'm squeaky clean, no drugs or arrests or tickets, whatever, but I was about ready to admit to something. The guys at MEPS were like "I will personally hunt you down and kill you for wasting my time if you're lying. And I know you're lying to me! No one is this clean!"

:p

Ahh gawd I hated MEPS. I was told not to disclose somethings, but the MC Liason have seen them all and can tell when your lying.

"Don't BS me Johnson. I'm from Columbus too. Are you telling me you never been in trouble?"

Ahh lying was easy, but inside I felt like ****.

There's like an interrogation at the MEPS? I better go commit some petty crimes so these guys won't be on my case.

I guess that's only a MC thing, because the guy that interviewed me was a Vietnam Army Vet who is a civvie employee at the Denver MEPs and he didn't grill me like ya'll got grilled. My best friend who is a Marine, told me that he got the third degree during his interview when he had a guilt attack and got caught up in something he said. He said he felt like chit afterward too Raymon lol.

I wouldn't, if only because I saw more than half the guys/gals I went into MEPS with beig told they'd have to come back because their waiver for ______ hadn't come in yet/hadn't been processed/had been denied.

You're better off just being squeaky clean and having people yell at you. ;)

"no sir" wow...no one EVER anwsers no to that question" lmao same reaction at MEPS they where saying "oh come on,your lying..i know your lying.just admit it" they even pretended to call the police in my town and get a 2004 drug charge (they really called his voicemail) hehehe.

Yeah I was talking to a couple guys in class today, talking about being hounded at MEPS, and they were all like: "Well, I mean, I don't do it now, but everyone has that 'testing' phase. Right?"

I guess some people don't. lol

I hit the floor... twice. HAHAHA. And everyone saw. And everyone thought I was dead because I was so pale. It was awesome.

I just thanked God there was a "door" between me and all the guys who were waiting in line. I was so light-headed I was saying stuff I'm not sure I even (want to) remember. But hey, only makes us stronger, eh?

Now if we can both get over it before boot....

Are you guys serious.

IDK, I had this hot chick with her titties hanging out in front of me. I just sat my eyes on those and I didn't feel a thing.

Parks, my recruiter is trying to get me to do the same thing as you, sign open contract, and then hell get me a spot in an mos i want. Is this safe? i dont want to sign open contract and then he not get me my mos that i want and i get ****ed.

its possible to pick my mos at meps and get it in my contract at meps right?

Achped

Zack, your recruiter cannot make you ship. My recruiter did the same thing, I was open contract when I depped in, in July, till about January, when I signed my 0300 contract.

When you ship to PI, the liason officer will tell you what your job is. If it says open contract, tell him you're not leaving, but it shouldn't come to that.

If you havent signed an MOS contract a few months before you leave, and you've been asking your recruiter, tell them you're not going anywhere without it.

Parks

Achped's got it in one. The only reason I signed with an open contract is because I trust my recruiter (what a dumb statement....) to get things done before I ship.

I can just get an MOS in my contract at meps right?if they offer me the one that i want can't i just get it in my contract then rather than waiting till after and going in open contract?
