Just wondering how wierd your MEPS roommate was cuz it seems like they all are. Mine had been shot in the FACE a month earlier and was the most ghetto white guy i had ever met.

Shot in the face?:scared:

That's pretty darn shocking. I'm lucky then, I just got a regular guy as my roommate, nothing exceptional like what you had. Damn, shot in the face.

I had four different roomates.

All of them were either joining the Army or Navy, and all of them swore up and down that they were better than me.

You're not a Marine yet, they very well may have been better than you...just not at making smart choices ;)

My MEPS roommate was my buddy I enlisted with, I also had another who was shipping with us to Parris Island, he was THIRTY ONE lol, he had already graduated college, opened up a computer business, and was currently teaching mexican-Americans English (he was Nicaraguan) He looked like he was some bum right off the street haha.

He was a good guy though, and was in the platoon on 2nd deck (2073, I was 3rd deck 2074). Sadly he got dropped for stress fractures and I haven't seen him since.

My roommte was shipping off to boot while I was just getting physical and sworn in. He looked like he just graduated from school which took me back when he showed me a picture of his kids and told me he was 23. After we found our room, he and I met two other people in the elevator. All four of us were the few Marine applicants at the hotel that night. While everyone else was just playing some Halo or watching a movie, we were in the weight room.

Out of 100 or so recruits at MEPS 4 of them were joining the marines. And as HurricaneRJ said most of the Army/Navy/Air Force recruits did think they were better than the marine recruits. Dunno why.....

mine was the most ghetto "im from the block" black kid i have ever met.He and I where the ONLY MARINE applicants in the hotel that night, the rest was coast guard and army, got in a few arguments with the army kids called the coast guard kids "puddle pirates" but all in all it was just fine and no hot tempers came out of it.

My roomate was shipping to navy boot, he was kind of over weight and i remember walking in the room at meps he was reading a COMIC BOOK! but anyway I introduced myself, we talked for a lil bit and then he took out this bottle of red juice and said that his recruiter told him to drink it so it can make him sh*t! I didn't say a word to him after that.

I know that juice, I got two bottles ready to go when need be. It's called Liquid Magnesium and he was in that bathroom all night long!!

... How? Like in what position could a bullet strike you in the face (not a ricohet, like an actual hole?) where it wouldn't incapacitate or kill you? That's nuts.

I've always had the quiet room mates who just sleep the whole time, however, when I went to take my DLAB I had a stalker. He was Guard and apparently didn't know that when I say no, I f-ing mean it! He said "I'm like the old Cingular commercials, except instead of asking 'can you hear me now?' I ask "will you f*** me now?" I got SO annoyed. Oh, then he got drunk and came pounding on my door at 0230. That was exciting. He was supposed to be going to his MOS school (or whatever they call it), but I hve a feeling that isn't where he ended up going after my room mate and I filed a complaint.

The first time I went to MEPs I got lucky and had this little asian kid who was going Infantry in the Corps and was shipping the next day. He was the really quiet and book smart type, kinda sucked he didn't talk a little more because he was a nice guy. The second night I was there I got screwed and got stuck with this weird little dude from Rock Springs who was also going Navy, I just hope he has already shipped or is shipping well after me, because he just kinda weirded me out. But my third time at MEPs my roommate was another Navy applicant I had met my second time there who was pretty cool, plus I was there with 3 other applicants from my RSS, who were good people and I actually had a somewhat good time compared to the pervious two times I was there.

Apparently he got in a fight with his fiance's brother...brother pulled a gun shot him in the mouth...bullet exited next to his jugular. There was a HOLE in the back of his jaw.

Gun violence. That guy was lucky, I've lost good friends to people being stupid and irresponsible. But I bet that guy must think he is god for surviving that.

Actually he was pretty down to earth about it. He was Motor T or Supply for the Army. Told him i was going marine infantry his response was that he was damn lucky and didnt want to give anybody another shot at shooting him.

From what I hear, Motor T gets a ton of action these days.

I didn't have much time to know my roommate. My darn key card didn't work so I didn't have time to get to know my room mate. My MEPs experience was good. People were friendly. When they found out what branch I was joining, I kept hearing 'She's crazy!' Even the guys joining the army were saying 'they're crazy!' in the lobby and when I walked in to go talk to the liason, they were all quiet for a few seconds.

But seriously, a gun shot?!

Um my meps roomate was a 30 year old navy hopeful. wasnt too bad. all the army boys shipping to boot were dogging on everyone but the marine hopefuls. but my friend has a kid in meps, that worshiped the dragon god. and swore to everything that he had a demon that lived in him, and that he talks to them. he was joining the army =]

My roomate was going Army.. His recruiter very seriously screwed him. He had a job back home to pay the bills until he leaves and the army recruiter came to his work place while he was gone and tried to convince the boss to fire him.

Has anyone else ever heard of this?

you'll get that a lot. specially when on a base at the exchange.

But if you end up ever in your MOS school training with other branches you'll see they are nasty they blouse their boots wierd and you'll see they arent allowed to wear civies or go anywhere without having a buddy or a shadow and they arent in formation they still pivot when they walk to the chow hall..

so when you are sitting back looking in your shorts and they are in their cammies pivoting every turn walking and eating ice cream while in uniform with IP's about 2 inches long hanging from their covers and every uniform youll see they might be good at what they do but they are all just as nasty as they were before they joined the military. Plus if you look at your MOS equivalant in the other branches it takes usually 4 different MOS's to do your job. We had ordies from the air force they had one MOS and they only did chaff and flair and squibbs then theres another mos who handled the ordnance and another who wouuld arm it. The Marine Corps is about the most for their buck so we did everything these guys did and more..

Hahaha, so true killer.

I asked for a high and tight on an airforce base and the barber goes "YESSSS, you must be a Marine!"

It was an incredible feeling haha.

MEPS was always a good time. It was funny how everyone would get into the little "my branch is cooler than yours" squabbles. I'd go to eat dinner and sit at one of the table and the army boys would be making fun of a Navy guy and an air force girl, and then I'd sit down and they'd be like "Let me guess, air force?" And I'd say, no *******, I'm joining the Marine Corps." They'd all shut up after that. It was pretty funny to totally shoot down the army guys who thought they were all hard.
Two times I had room mates who ended up being in my platoon. The other two times I had air force girls. The one girl's dad was on the phone with her and kept telling her how awful it was that I was going into the Marines. The other girl looked preppy as hell and her dad was like an air force master sergeant or something. He came to our room and I almost laughed because he looked rediculous in his uniform. He was even impressed that I was joining the Marines. That's how you know your branch is the best, when you have e-7s and e-8s from other branches that are impressed by your recruit status.

I had two roomates while I was there,

I was sitting in the room watching tv when the first one got there, he was a pretty cool guy from Ohio, and the first thing he says is "Ay yo, they got a basketball court here". Sorry dont think so. He was National Guard. So we go eat, and then are hanging out in the MEPS room, watching Shooter, and I get a call from the ball n chain, so I head back to the room, and there is another guy Layin in the other dudes bed, watchin tv talking on his phone, and a cot magically appeared in the room. He was a college grad, joining the airforce.

there were only 4 other Marine Applicants out of about 100 ish

Of course we all got the "your crazy",

Then when the Army guys were bragging about there 40k signing bonus, one of them said, "Hell yeah, I'm buyin an Escalade" I asked him when he was going to be able to drive it, because he would never be home to.... That ****ed him off a little bit

wow.... long post sry

Not true for the Navy, Gunner's Mates handle all the various weapons systems and small arms that the Navy employ, both seabourne and land based. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjob1/a/gm.htm

well here are some key differences we actually handled and would remove and replace anything dealing with the armament computer system wether it be the encoder/decoders or the armament computer itself. That i know navy AO's do not perform that function.

I'm not speaking for the AOs, they're some weird types, I should know, my recruiter is an AO lol.

I remember when I went to take the ASVAB at the National Guard Armory and it was just me and 5 guys. When we were waiting for what our AFQT scores were, we all asked each other what branches we were looking to join. There were three for the Army, one for the Navy, and one for the Coast Guard. They looked at me because it was my turn to answer, and I said I was joining the Marines. All of their jaws dropped and their eyes bugged out, and this one kid goes, "Man, the Marines are hardcore!" I just started laughing; it was great LOL.

This is the universal answer I think! It does give me moto when people say things like that.

Notice they never say, "Marines?! You can't make it in the Marines!"

The first time I went to MEPS I was with Hobson (He is a LCPL on this site) we were going to join together. We didn't sleep really, just talked. In the middle of the night we heard some kid yelling, then we heard his door open.. I opened my door and he was walking down the hallway -- I looked through the window and he was getting in a taxi.. he wasn't on the bus the next morning. I don't know what happened.

The second time, I showed up very late because I was working and my recruiter drove me up there at like 11 AM so I had a room all to myself.. conveniently I had a girl who lived about three blocks down.. don't do what I did.
