View Full Version : Running Pains
We all get running pains I'm sure. I was wonderin' if someone might recognize mine. I've been in the DEP about 2 months, been to all the pool functions. And just yesterday i went for a short run. (1 1/2 Miles) and not even .5 miles into it i had to stop!? This isn't normal for me, i had not even begun to sweat...the problem was my throat, from my sternum up i had deep deep pain, no doubt to do with my wind pipe. I don't think I have asthma...pray to god i don't. I don't have the money to go to the doc's sooo, anyone know what could be up?
Thanks for the info!!

Why did you post this 3 times? Anyways asthma would be shortness of breath really quick. If thats what happened to you then i'm guessing you may have it, I dont know i'm not a doctor. Might of been you were running to hard and your lungs werent used to that kind of work yet. Might have been you were breathing wrong in your mouth and out your mouth. I'm not exactly sure but i've heard and expierienced that if you breath in your mouth and out your mouth you get winded faster and if hurts your lungs. Again i'm not positive because i'm not a doctor. Hope that helped SOMEWHAT.
You're in southern CA right? Are you anywhere near those fires? If you are it could possibly have somthing to do with the smoke...but I'm not sure, just throwing an idea out there.

Oh your in CA? Didnt see that. Isnt Santa Monica pretty close to the fires? Yeah it could be that wear those protective masks when you run because that is most likley what caused it. The news is even calling for some of that smoke to get here in Arizona.
3 times eh! Hmm...deadly slow computer, so i clicked the post button a bunch of times. My bad! And yes, where I live there was ash raining on us about 2 days ago. So perhaps that would be it.

Definitely sounds like it could be environmental.
If you haven't had issues before....I wouldn't worry.

I know what it's like to have a slow computer lol. But seriously if you can get one of those masks that i've seen the news recommend forgot what they were called though.

cbx...check out some of the NASA photos of the Californias....pretty interesting.
I would seriously consider training indoors for a while. Keep the lungs healthy and such if you don't go the mask route....

maybe i can help, if you can't tell by the heading i'm now a paramedic, firefighter. the smoke, even when you can't see it contains deadly chemicals. don't just think about the trees and grass burning, but also the houses, cars. etc.. there are over a hundred deadly chemicals in the average house fire. including, phosegen gas, cyanide, Co etc... any of which can cause these signs/symtoms. please do all future PT inside. mick

No we are not doctors. If it is bothersome, pony up and see a doctor. Surely there is a public clinic nearby even if you have to ride the bus a half day.
