‘Wounded Warriors’ see history first-hand

New Windsor – Five young Marines, who were wounded while serving in Iraq and are members of the Wounded Warriors from Camp Lejeune, got a look at history Monday as they toured the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor.

One of the Marines, Nicholas Scoaf of Kentucky, was taken by the history of the Purple Heart medal dating back to George Washington’s day in Newburgh.

“To come here and see from back in the Revolutionary and all the down the hallway to where we were puts things back into perspective,” he said.

Scoaf, who was wounded in 2005, already received his Purple Heart medal. His four other buddies were filling out the paperwork for them to receive theirs.

The five Marines were greeted by a host of local veterans, who shook their hands and thanked them for their service.
