Motorcycle crash kills Camp Pendleton Marine

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Local authorities in San Diego County suspect that high speed was the cause of a motorcycle accident Wednesday that killed a young Marine.
Camp Pendleton officials identified the victim as Lance Cpl. Heriberto Sanchez II of St. Louis, Mo.
Sanchez, 20, was riding a motorcycle in Vista about 7:18 p.m. “at high speed and lost control” of the motorcycle, which ran off the road and crashed into a wooded area, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. He died at the scene. Authorities were investigating the cause of the crash.
Sanchez was an aviation logistical tactical information specialist with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39 at Camp Pendleton, said 1st Lt. Lisa Lawrence, a I Marine Expeditionary Force spokeswoman. The young Marine had enlisted in April 2006 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, she said.
