Dedicated to my twin boys Daniel Joseph and Andrew Grant Ouellette
Don't grieve for me;
I'm in a much better place.
There are no tears where I'm at;
No sadness written on my face.
For I am not gone;
I've merely been reassigned.
To help move the work of Heaven along.
I will never know what it's like to fight rush hour traffic,
or if my retirement portfolio is stable.
I will never know stress;
or if I am able.
I march with warriors;
the Marines of Old.
Men who stormed the shores of Tripoli;
whose acts were courageous and bold.
I met a man they call Chesty,
who told me stories of the Choisin.
I talked with Dan Daley;
who promised to tell me about Belleau Wood.
They tell me that we will meet a man called Moses,
who parted the Red Sea. I recently talked to a warrior
who talked about pirates by the name of Barbary.
It's really nice up here; the weather is so clear,
no talk of rain for many thousands of years.
I can run and skip; how I feel so free;
no tubes hooked up to my body.
Please don't grieve for me,
I couldn't ask for more.
I'm free from pain and sorrow;
I will hurt no more.
Semper Fi,
Brian Ouellette
