My best friend and I were one day talking about our bootcamps and comparing notes. As we teased each other back and forth, he told me of an incident that happened when he went through basic training at Fort Dix.

Some of the guys in his platoon were teasing one of the recruits/privates about being involved with Marine Corps Junior ROTC in High school. As they were calling this guy jarhead wannabe, etc, and ribbing him; their senior drill sergeant called everyone to attention.

My friend told me about how this Senior Drill Sergeant proceeded to chew them out for their remarks towards Marines.
Their senior drill sergeant went on to state how he was in Grenada with the Marines and fought along side of them, and how they were the most disciplined professionals he/ the drill sergeant ever worked with, and if any of those privates wanted to, this senior drill sergeant would be more than happy to have them shipped to Parris Island for two weeks.

My friend told me that things got quiet. He said the senior drill sergeant then stated, " Just because I didn't become a Marine, does not mean that I don't respect them, and if any of you want to stay on my good side you will respect them because they've earned that right.

My friend told me that for the rest of the time he was in basic training, nobody said anything derogatory about the Marines...........
