Post office renamed for 1st Hoosier killed in Iraq
Staff reports

WASHINGTON – Every time people in Atwood pop into the post office for a book of stamps or to mail a birthday card, they will see a tribute to Lance Cpl. David Fribley, a Marine killed in Iraq three days after the invasion.

The U.S. House voted unanimously Tuesday to name the building for Fribley, the first Hoosier killed in the war. Senate agreement is expected without controversy.

Fribley, 26, was one of seven U.S. troops killed in an Iraqi ambush in March 2003. Before enlisting in the Marines after 9/11, Fribley grew up in Atwood and graduated from Warsaw Community High School, where he received numerous awards as a member of the football and track teams, and Indiana State University.

A plaque honoring Fribley also will be hung in the post office building in Atwood, a Kosciusko County town west of Warsaw.
