FORT MYERS: A weekend of rest and relaxation came to a memorable end Monday for a group of soldiers injured on the battlefield.

Twenty-one service members from Georgia spent a few days in Fort Myers and wrapped up their visit by receiving keys to the city.

It was more than a vacation - it was three days of recognition.

Representative Connie Mack carried in 21 tokens of appreciation from Tallahassee.

"We had flags flown over the capital and we would like to present to you a flag," Mack said.

Cliff Naylor and the District 13 VFW gave the soldiers, who are accustomed to staying in a hospital, a home away.

The group stayed for free at the Hampton Inn, ate for free at local restaurants and zipped around town thanks to Enterprise Rental Car.

Naylor says he recovered at the same hospital the soldiers came from when he returned from Vietnam.

He'll head to Camp Lejeune next month to organize another weekend, this one for wounded Marines.
