A new scholarship from the Wharton School will enable one U.S. Marine Corps officer to attend a Wharton Executive Education course, business school officials announced at the end of last month.

The scholarship, officially dubbed the Captain Robert M. Secher Scholarship, was created to honor Secher for his contributions to Wharton, including spearheading the Quantico Leadership Venture, which builds upon U.S. Marine Corps facilities to develop leadership at its Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Va.

Secher was killed while serving in Iraq on Oct. 8, 2006.

"Our partnership with the USMC and Officer Candidate School has greatly benefited our students and the USMC, with Marine officers participating every year in our Leadership Conference" Jeff Klein, director of the Wharton Graduate Leadership Program, said in a press statement.

"To say that the investment both Capt. Secher and the Marines have made in our students is unparalleled would be an understatement," he said.

More than 1,000 Wharton MBA students have participated in the leadership program since it began eight years ago.
