Scouts learn leadership skills from local Marines

WSBT-TV Report

A local campsite that could be put up for sale is hosting Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from all over northern Indiana this weekend. The kids are staying at Rice Woods in Grovertown in Starke County.

Members of South Bend-based Company B are joining them and teaching them about communication and teamwork.

"In the Marine Corps, we all come from different backgrounds," says Lance Corporal Bo Ennis from Company B. "It's the same as these kids. And to see them come together and function as a team and actually watch them make mistakes trying to come together as a team."

"It gives them confidence and lifelong skills to be a productive citizen throughout their life," says Joel Edgell, the Webelo's Den Leader.

The LaSalle Boy Scout Council is considering selling Rice Woods.

The council has said selling the 130-acre campsite could raise $400,000 to fund other scouting programs.

Many scouts and their parents are fighting the proposed sale.
