I know that I am a drop in the ocean, and I don't want anyone to think that I think that the world revolves around me. But I don't ask a whole lot of my recruiter. I am working my *** off, getting prepared for boot camp mentally, physically, and academically. Every once in a while, though, (and by this I really do mean only like once a month or so,) I try to contact him just for a quick fifteen minutes of motivation or whatever. But he either doesn't call back or is very slow about it. I've already asked him about it, and he just said that his phone sometimes doesn't tell him that he has a new message. And yet, it worked just fine before I signed the papers.. Input, anyone?

I suggest you just show up at his office. I had a real hard time just trying to sign up in the first place. The recruiter flaked out out on me three times after I arranged to meet with him. I showed up at the recruiter's office one day and talked to his Staff Sergeant. I said, "Hey, I really want to join the Marines but your Sergeant keeps flaking out on me. Can I talk to someone else?" The next day I was signing on the dotted line. I imagine, in your case, that once October 1st came, he had a new quota to fill and didn't reserve the bandwidth to deal with folks that had already signed up. Just show up and address your question to whomever happens to be there.

Emma,

I know it isn't true of all recruiters, but I think it happens enough to call it common. It was my experience as well.

I say...no one is going to look out for you better than you. Make a second, fourth, 128th call....or stop by. If you need it, work for it, he has a mission to make....

Tough love!

You need to fill out that profile sweetie................we like to know a little about whom we're talking to around here. Anybody that's serious about doing this with their life has nothing to hide here.

Honestly, I don't understand why people think they need a recruiter to hold their hand. Notice, the title is "Recruiter" not "motivator". Sure, most (if not all) of the recruiters do amazing things with the poolees to get them ready for boot camp. But, his priority (or her) is to find eligible people to enlist into the Marine Corps. His career depends upon meeting that mission.

Add a picture. If it shows your face in camouflage paint, you get a 10!:D

Yeah.........the motivation comes from within. It all depends on how bad YOU want things. We females especially get treated this way because I would bet the house that that Recruiter thinks you're going to change your mind anyway. Mine figured I would get pregnant somewhere in those 9 months that I was in DEP - I proved him wrong with a vengence!

Feel free to sign in here before you go PT and we'll motivate your a$$!

Thank you!!! I'll totally do that. Extra motivation goes a long way. I'm still trying to get my 3 mile run time from 28 min to 24.. any tips?? other than sprinting short distances in between? And yes, my recruiter told me if I got pregnant he would be wayyy beyond mad he said a lot of girls that sign up end up getting pregnant because they changed their mind. Not going to happen to me either! I want to be a Marine way too much.

isnt a 28 a 100 for girls?? im not sure and not sayign you should settle on just the requirements but heres somethign that helps me run. Ive never had a 100 on the runnign event only came close 19 being my worse time.

But with me I like to run but i find it's the competition that makes me do better on events. When you are runnign with other people and I see their pace i step it up a notch and match my new pace with breathing. I never try to over exert myself till I can see the finish and then I put all i have and dont eveen think about stoping till the line is behind me then i start to slow down I make it where i dont want to walk the wagon wheel and puke.

Basically you will be suprised how having people competing for a higher score will get you to improve your run.

To address your springting comment. Sprints are good but a run is endurance. Some good tips move your arms with your feet youd be suprised if you simply move your arms faster I find my feet just follow. Find a good way or system to breathe usually a good way is to use the timing of your feet to count when you should exhale/inhale. When your feet feel like you cant take just keep your mind focused on something else. I always sing cadences I make up in my head so im not even paying attn to my body or any aches i might have im too busy in my head thinking.

Not sure if this will help but you ill find a good system for your running and if you hit a 18 yooull smoke most guys.

A couple months ago, I decided my entire PFT run I'd try to concentrate on only two things. 1) Things that are god damned hilarious 2) Things that I'm really proud of having done.

March PFT: run time 24:36
April PFT: run time 22:12

*shrugs* Worked for me. Those PFT's were 2 weeks apart. A positive mindset, good form, hydration, and breath control go quite a distance.

Like they've been saying, your recruiter has done his part. As harsh as it may seem he really isn't there to hold your hand through the whole entire process. However on the bright side, this website is a cesspool for information regarding the Marine Corps and how things are. We've got guys on here that haven't shipped, just got back from boot, active, reserves, and Marines that are now working out in the civilian world. So I'm sure we can do a very good job of addressing and questions/concerns that you might have.

How is that possible? Were you pregnant and then suddenly became unpregnant?

Just messin' with you.
