View Full Version : Mos 0656
Other than the MOS manual, I haven't been able to get much information about my MOS, 0656 (Tactical Network Specialist). I'm just curious about how long/hard the training is at 29 palms and what the day-to-day tasks of a Tactical Network Specialist are. Any information would be appreciated!

If you haven't yet, visit http://www.tecom.usmc.mil/g3/roadmap.php and I would advise embracing it by doing everything they advise. This is a roadmap and likely nobody will be pushing you to follow it; but, I think doing so will help current and future promotions. If such a thing existed when I was in the Corps, it wasn't widely publicized and I don't know that it is now.
My son is in MCT and found out the other day he is to be an 0651. I spoke to a Cpl Holzmann who is an 0656, in trying to find info regarding 0651, and he has been very helpful. His blog is at www.mattholzmann.com (http://www.mattholzmann.com) and you can post any questions there.
From talking with Cpl. Holzmann, the Corps may be combining 0651 and 0656, extending the school a couple of weeks; otherwise, expect 2.5 months after classes actually start. As I understand, 0651 is working primarily with Windows servers and 0656 switches and routes. As an MCSE I see great value in combining the two.
Good luck and Semper Fi.
Thank you so much for the information; the roadmap had exactly the information I was looking for!
