Town’s ball fields dedicated to Marine

MERRIMACK, N.H. — The town of Merrimack is remembering one of its Marines, killed two years ago in Iraq.
At a dedication ceremony Saturday, the town renamed local ball fields in honor of Marine Cpl. Timothy Gibson, who died in a helicopter crash.
His mother, Elaine Gibson, said her family has been overwhelmed by support from the town since her son’s death in January 2005. The dedication of the ball fields are particularly poignant because Timothy Gibson played there as a child.
Gibson was a 2000 graduate of Merrimack High School, where he played football and baseball. He was 23 when a transport helicopter he was riding in crashed in western Iraq, killing 30 Marines and one Navy corpsman.
