Mom & Dad liked tradition and direction USMC presented at every session, son liked US Army because they promised him everything. so he enlists in Army goes to MEPS and fails hearing - high freq loss. we have applied for waiver & to congressman but are not holding out much hope. He is not deaf - this is a HS grad, made 4 of 6 colleges applied to, is a EMT (vollie & Paid) with a heroic save under his belt, probationary FF and works too!!!

USMC recruiters are telling us that waiver via BUMED is easier & they have his MOS - FF open now.

Question - how real is probability that BUMED will waive hearing

See, they realized, unlike the Army that you listen with your ears and not your mouth; Army still hasn't figured that out since they still yell into your face and not your ears. :p:D Recruiters will say pretty much anything.

I think it is dependant on how bad his hearing loss is. If it is only certain tones then they may very well waive it. It will limit his choices for MOS. If it is a good deal of hearing loss (i.e. he needs a hearing aid for day to day activities) then they probably won't waive it.

I don't put much stock in the MEPS Doctors. I had one tell me I was so blind I couldn't enlist. I was sent to a local optometrist and told my vision was fine. I would suggest taking your son to at least two ENT doctors. If they both agree that your soon does not have a hearing loss, than you should be able to use this for leverage.

They won't have any problems with hearing...
