Senate approves Mattis for JFCom job

The Senate on Friday morning approved the nomination of Marine Lt. Gen. James Mattis as U.S. Joint Forces Command commander. In that post, he would receive a fourth star and become the U.S. Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation.

The Senate also confirmed the nominations for the chief of naval operations, the U.S. Strategic Command and the new U.S. Africa Command.

Navy Adm. Gary Roughead has been approved as the Navy’s new top officer. Air Force Gen. Kevin Chilton would be the Strategic Command chief. And Army Gen. William Ward would be the four-star commander of the Africa Command,
