Soldiers conducting a search of a targeted house in Qarghulli Village southwest of Baghdad discovered a weapons cache that included propaganda about the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the U.S.

According to an Army press release, coalition soldiers, including U.S. soldiers from 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, found a booklet featuring images of the attacks with a written script praising the attacks.

Also found in the search, named Operation Rock Sweep, were three blasting caps, a ski mask, a manual with instructions on constructing a car bomb, two cell phones and phone activation cards.

The owner of the house was detained and held for questioning.

“Our assessment is that these guys were getting ready to launch attacks during the Ramadan celebration,” 4-31 battle captain 1st Lt. Thomas Ceislak said in the release.

The purpose of the mission, the release said, was to investigate specific al-Qaida operatives identified as planning attacks against the military and citizens.

The intelligence for the raid, according to Ceislak, was obtained through earlier questioning of detainees and tips provided by the unit’s source network.
