No its not true.

Here's a video of another person opening one up. The guy doesnt seem to be very mechanically inclined so bear with him.

correct. I always thought that "D" cells were in a 6 volt lantern battery. If there were 32 "AA" batteries in a lantern battery then that would mean it would not be a 6 volt battery it would be a 48 volt battery. I don't think the kid will get his money back but he did verify what was inside the lantern battery case....??? Who knows???

It is possible that there are 4 "cells" of 8 AA batteries. Each cell being made up of 8 AAs. AA batteries are 1.5 volts. If they are wired in series the voltage is not changed no matter how many batteries are added. 4 x 1.5v = 6v. This is a trick I'm definately gonna try.

The wiring is called series-parallel. However the batteries must be "wired that way" which would usually mean soldered together with metal tabs in the proper sequence. Those batteries just spilled out un-attached, which tells me it was a hoax. The batteries HAD to be interconnected to work at 6V. Anyone taken 1 apart yet?

wired in series ( p to p, n to n )same voltage amps increase. Wired in parallel (p to n) volts increase.

Here is Engergizer, Duracell and Walgreens brand 6V batteries. See for yourselves. I'm gonna email the originator of that video and tell him I want $30 and 20 minutes of my life back.

Very nice Huey,,, keep it simple for all, though. Electronics is my thing,, Not everyones. You wanna push electron theory, or hole theory? I will converse either way. lets just wait for USMCHAUER to get back from the store.

Their could be still a manufacturer using AAs. VERY good reshearch though.
