Pensecola, FL

[RCM]

I most likely will be stationed down in Pensecola because I am going to be aircrew. Is there a lot to do down there and is it a pretty good base to be stationed at?

Pensacola is know as the NJP capital of the Marine Corps for a reason. Its the firrst bit of freedom Marines get and a lot tend to go all out and do a lot of stupid stuff, Pensacola, being where its at gives Marines the opportunity to do a lot of things most other Marnes in that sitution dont have. Becasue of all this policies regarding liberty and duty and the like are constantly changing. Some times its like the normal fleet Marine force and you go to work and you go home. Other times its a lot like bootcamp, camis or green on green PT gear all the time with off base liberty restrcted to a few hours a night and on weekends. It all depends on when your there and what the Marines before you did or didnt do. I was there from Oct. 06 to April 07. I got there a few weeks after a Marine had gone out in town and murdered a civilian for talking to his girlfriend. There was also a rash of underage drinking incidents and a bunch of Marines had gone UA. So for the 6 months I was there things were locked down pretty tight. From what I've heard things have only gotten stupider becasue Marines still cant handle themselves. Even with all the restrictions though you can still find ways to have fun. Pensacaola beach is, in my opion, one of the nicest there is. Mobile, Panama City and Fort Walton beach are all just a short drive away. Orlando, Miami and Atlanta are all within bounds for those long weekends. Just dont do anything stupid while your out there.

I don't see why being aircrew will get you stationed in Pensacola, is that your MOS school? You could be stationed anywhere we have aircraft.

I was at NAS Pensacola (http://www.matsgfl.usmc.mil/)for Orndance School and loved every second of it!

It's true that underage drinking was a huge problem there.... they say the quickest way to make PFC is to come as a LCPL. I knew so many who had their rank busted down and went to the Brig while stationed there. Of course, I was a good Marine and never got caught... I mean... got into trouble.

There is a great E-Club really close the Marine Barracks and a lot of other things to do on base. The barracks are great... TV rooms with cable on every floor, as well as a rec room complete with a foosball table and big screen TV (at my barracks anyway). If you get bored on base, there is always Pensacola Beach... I had a lot of good times there.

Hurricane parties were the worst thing about Pensacola... that was the only time we were restricted and on lock down. As long as SSGT Mize isn't ruling the barracks anymore, you should be fine... he was a nightmare/DI wannabe.

Yeah sorry I meant my MOS school. But I will probably be there for a while. Sounds like fun, good thing a week after I get out of boot I turn 21. haha
