View Full Version : Thinking!

We had a not unusual power blackout. Computer/internet was not available, so I read a book. Fiction and fantasy, about a terriorist in the U.S. The "good guys" killed him in the end. The book was garbage. The bad guy's death was too easy. And I started to think about things.

You've got a problem, when you give me time with nothing to do but to think.

Iraq. When the present "situation" is over, there will be x number of Iraqi dead. To include Hussain and his ministers, advisors, and 2nd tier extremists. Should they all be equal under the number "x"?

Hopefully, the number of innocents (collateral damage) will be small. In a perfect world, I would visit their families to express my condolences, and yes, accept their spittle as a demonstration of their grief and frustration.

I would pay tribute to the brave military professionals who served and died honorably for a country and a cause they believed in. (Honorably is the key word, here) I would stand, salute, and respect them as those who willingly paid a price for their beliefs and patriotism.

For those who brought dishonor, and earned disgust by their actions, I would bury them wrapped in a pigskin shroud, and publicize that fact to the rest of the Islamic world.

For Hussain, the top echelon, and the major perpetrators of autrocities committed against the citizens of Iraq, I would sentence them to live for a very long time, praying and begging for the release of death every minute of every day.

I would take it as a personal failure any time one of them escaped their punishment by dying.

You see, when the gross number "X" is read, there are many catagories that should be considered separately.

When I was a young boy, we lived next to a railroad yard. Steam locomotives were being replaced by electric powered engines. There were three tracks. Two were for the train wheels, the third, about a foot off the ground carried the electric power. Touching the third rail meant instant death. No excuses; no OOPs, I'm sorry, I won't do it again.

The bravest of the brave, the daringest of the dareful, no one would EVER risk playing near the third rail. No one in my age group could explain why or how it worked, but we BELIEVED. (and lucky for us we did.)

From that, I developed a personal philosophy. "If this! Then that! Now what will it take before you believe I mean what I say?

If you wait too long to make up your mind, it will probably be too late for you to change it." "Bye"

****, First Sergeant, I thought you were so on the money I couldn't think of anything to add! All I could do was sit here and nod my head and smile .

As always, ya just amazed me is all. A point to make, a bit of humor, and how can an honest man disagree with with what ya said!

One plus one always makes two! Play with electricity, yer gonna get burned! If this happens, that will be the result.

Ya done good.
