300 Lejeune Marines to deploy Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — About 300 Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based Marines are heading for Iraq on Saturday. The leathernecks with 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, will be deployed for about seven months.
The battalion will support the II Marine Expeditionary Force mission of assisting the Iraqi people toward independent security and self-governance, according to a MEF press release.
