To whoever can answer me:

I was just wondering if Marines were allowed to leave MOS school on the weekends. I heard they were allowed to leave base, but they were only allowed to go a certain distance. Is it possible for them to leave Friday after classes and go all the way from Maryland to Miami and return on Sunday?

If memory serves me correctly, it takes a 96 hour pass (4 days) to be allowed to travel 250 miles form base. So from Maryland to Miami, I doubt it--without permision form his CO! Then he would have to have special circumstances and proof of transportation (airline tickets). Otherwise he would have to request annual leave (if he has any accrued leave) for ---say-----5 days or so.

I could be wrong, some of the younger Marines should be able to better address this question.

Weekend liberty policies vary depending on the school. However, it is unlikely that your Marine can make that trip without special permission from his command. Is it a wedding or something? I'm sure we can arrange for the local PFC Jody to escort you.

Not sure how it will work at your school. But everywhere else you will have a 100 mile maximum traveling distance. For me I could leave on the weekends and go out in town etc and have a good time. But no, I would not suggest going from Maryland to Miami in a weekend...definitely not a good idea at all.

if you want the safe suggestion...assume he cant, and you fly out to see him instead...hell he could buy your ticket out tehre if he wanted to it would be jsut like if he bought himself one to go see you....except he breaks no traveling limitations this way....of coarse you'll have to get a hotel room...but itd be worth it wouldnt it?....

Is he at Ft Meade, MD? He should probably talk to the Company Gunnery Sergeant about an out-of-bounds chit if he wants to travel. Also, keep in mind that we're coming up on the holiday season... lots of 4-day weekends coming up. With a little planning, you could probably set up something workable between you and him to visit.

I wouldn't discount going to see him either. Maryland is a fairly nice area though if he doesn't have a car yet, you'll have to plan for transportation. If you don't mind a little road trip, it's not a bad drive up the east coast.
