Ive read somewhere that there is a major difference in each of the three battalions and i was curious if someone could enlighten me to what battalion has what reputation.

Which one is "All drill, no kill" for example.

First, which MCRD? Second, they all use the exact same syllabus to train recruits.

"First makes men
Second makes Marines
Third makes machines"

I don't know if there's any truth to that saying. I just read it on a bathroom wall during Team Week.

Stop only reading books, oh ye valiant one, and get into the fight and find out for yourself.

But it's all the same, sorry to ruin the ending.

Although someone once told me that at PI, 1st and 3rd are very similar to 4th Battalion? I can't confirm or deny that, other then to tell you that 2nd is the toughest, meanest, and greenest Marines on earth.

Good luck with your book.

Congratulations. It still doesn't matter, be happy unless you're in 4th. Worry about all the things you can control and don't get caught up in rumor and innuendo.

Good luck

I'm going by my experience, we got pickups (Which you can't really say are good examples of each training battalion since they were dropped anyways) from 1st and 3rd (I was 2nd RTBN MCRD Parris Island)

They were by FAR the WORST recruits in the COMPANY. One was such a dirtbag, I don't even want to explain some of the stuff he did. He couldn't march, shoot, spout knowledge, sound off, run fast, anything. He was 3rd Bn

The other, 1st Bn, we picked him up on TD45 and he DIDNT KNOW WHAT A CAPTAIN WAS, or how to DISTINGUISH between a senior DI and a kill hat!!! He talked to the series commander and sr DI and they ran out of the office , and the senior is like UGHHHHHHHHHH PICKUP! YOU MADE IT TO TRAINING DAY 45 AND YOU DONT KNOW WHAT RANK TWO SILVER BARS IS? (NO SIR!) What am I? "A staff sergeant sir!" WHAT? I have TWO rockers underneath my crossed rifles. TRY AGAIN. "GUNNERY SERGEANT? SIR?" What is my billet? "Drill instructor sir!" UGHHHHH PICKUP YOU NASTY BAG OF ASS!!!

He barely passed the PFT (3 pullups), and was honestly one of the dumbest recruits I've ever met.

If you think I'm lieing, ask Nathan Benton, a new member on leatherneck. He'll concur with everything I said.

The reason I brought those two up, is because even the WORST recruit we had from TD-1, would know what a Captain is, and would know how to distinguish a senior DI from a kill hat, and would know how to march (we won final drill) and would know how to sound off (We got killed enough for not doing so)

I know its a boot thing to say, but 2nd Bn is where its at. End of story :)

And just what exactly is wrong with being in 4th?

Just kidding. I'm actually a fan of 2nd BN because a lot of the best Marines I've known have come out of 2nd.

"Second Battalion, second to none!" lol

If 3rd Bn. was a swamp in 86, it must have been from all those recruits peeing in the yard. We called 3rd Bn. Disneyland, in 68. Only new barracks at the time. Rest of us lived in WW2 fire traps! Did you mean tough, or rusty, as nails?
:D

Seriously, I would guess 3rd is the oldest section now; from showplace to ghetto in 5 short decades (damn, that's depressing).:(

3rd BN squad bays suck now. They're at least twice as small as the one's in 1st and 2nd (sorry I can't speak on 4th BN). The squad bay we stayed at during BWT was at Weapons BN and they were like the one's 1st and 2nd get. HUGE I tell ya!

How so? They aren't all the same down there. When we were there for the range we stayed in the small one's like we have at 3rd BN but during A-line/BWT we stayed in the bigger one's.

We were always told that we(3rd Battalion) had the best drill scores and knowledge scores, but I am not sure about PT scores exactly, since in general they went down due to a new training schedule I believe.

I know for certain though that 3rd Battalion has the best PT shirts by far.

This is comedy, I wonder if Chesty did this? They didn't have many battalions then though. Probably just one, his.
