JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — If you’re a reservist worried about meeting Marine Corps Martial Arts Program requirements, here’s your chance.

Marine Corps Mobilization Command is offering certification courses through the end of this year at its site in Kansas City, Mo.

“It’s really geared toward all Reserve Marines who want to participate,” including the Individual Ready Reserve, said 1st Lt. William Sinkinson, a MobCom spokesman. Participants will receive orders to attend the course, including travel and lodging expenses.

The nine-day courses, which include two days for travel, are being offered to meet martial-arts requirements established by Commandant Gen. James Conway earlier this year.

“[MCMAP] is a key asset in developing both war-fighting skills and character that all commanders should be utilizing to its fullest potential,” Conway wrote in a Corps-wide message in March.

The message states that all Marines, active and Reserve, must achieve tan belt certification by the end of this year. Infantrymen must earn their green belts by the end of 2008, and all other combat-arms Marines must have their gray belts by the end of next year.

Those interested in attending one of MobCom’s courses must meet Marine standards, including height and weight, Sinkinson said.

Reservists are asked to sign up at least 10 days in advance by contacting Sinkinson at william.sinkinson@usmc.mil or mark.sink@usmc.mil.

Here is the course schedule:

* Sept. 15-23: tan belt.

* Sept. 22-30: gray belt.

* Oct. 6-14: tan belt/belt instructor/recertification training.

* Nov. 27-Dec. 4: tan belt.

* Dec. 1-9: tan belt.

* Dec. 8-16: gray belt.
