Columbus Marine dies in Iraq

A Marine from Columbus died from a roadside bomb in Iraq.
Cpl. John C. Tanner was killed Wednesday during combat operations in the Al Anbar province, according to the Department of Defense. The 21-year-old was assigned to the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
His family told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer that his wife, who was staying with family in Montana, is expecting their first child. He joined the Marines in 2006.
At least 3,375 U.S. troops have died in Iraq since the start of the war.
