It's about time someone started holding these people accountable, Murtha included.

These clowns think they can spout off whatever fabrications they want and then hide behind the First Amendment.

Actually, Murtha will first try to hide behind this clause from Article 1.

U.S. Constitution, Article 1, Section 6.
The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.

I know he made many of his statements to the press and not in a "speech or debate" in the House of Reps. There have been precidents where almost anything a Congressman says in relation to his/her legislative duties (no matter how slight) is not libel or slander.

Failing in an attempt to use Article 1, Section 6, Murtha will alternatively claim Free Speech under the First Amendment.

Personally, I think Murtha was waaaay out of line and his remarks fall beyond the pale of constitutional protection. We shall see.
