Although I may not understand or agree,
I had to let you go defend our land of the free.
They say it is for freedom for those with no rights.
But why my son,why this fight!
I raised you from a young, to stand up for those
who are the underdogs,
Why did I have to raise you so right and strong.
The day you left for bootcamp,we hugged and
we cried.
I whispered in your ear its time to leave the nest,
So go on my bird spread you wings and fly.
I think of you daily and I think of you often,
I hope he remembers how much I love him.
So be careful my son, defend what you think is right,
There are invisible hands that tuck you in at night.
If it comes to combat, which some think it may,
For all other families I will hope and I will pray.
That they have raised a son as good as mine,
Be ever so merciful. Please be kind.
For if their son has to do what he thinks is right.
and it is the enemy in the middle of the night.
I hope someone whispers in his ear,
This is someones husband or son they hold dear.
They will need him later at home,
Yes he has a family, like you have your own.
Be careful, Be safe, defend what is right,
May God give you comfort when you
lie your head down at night.
I love you my son and will always be proud.
A United States Marine is from where you abound!
Dedicated to my son Lcpl lyell M Hablitzel
