Goodevening Marines. I just got home from recruit training today. Graduated 3rd Bn. Kilo Co. Plt 3064 (honor platoon) yesterday.
My crucible was a bit special. I was in Team 1-2, team leader Ssgt. Merchant. We were the only team that got to participate in an event dedication that is named after Cpl. Dunham. For those of you poolees that dont know who Cpl. Dunham is, he is the first medal of honor recipient since Vietnam. He used MCMAP that he learned to wrestle an insurgent to the deck and the insurgent dropped a gernade. He threw his kevelar over the gernade and selflessly threw himself on top of the kevelar, saving at least 2 other Marine's lives. So Dunham's course is a MCMAP course. We got to meet his parents and listen to his mother's message. Then we ran the event for his mother to watch and at the end Ssgt. Merchant read the citation in front of everyone. Before we left to go into the next event, Cpl. Dunham's Senior Drill Instructor came to speak with us. Its really was a once in a life time experience.
