My wife and I have been asked to volunteer for the Blue Star Mothers of America. Is this the same as Mothers of America, only with a different name?
We have heard negative feedback on Mothers of America, and are trying to decide whether to volunteer or not. Herman

Blue Star Mothers are for any mother or spouse of an active duty serviceman.

Gold Star Mothers are for deceased service members killed in action or service.

Volunteering for these organization ar good as they give a lot of support and grief counseling.

Thanks for the response. Now my wife wants to know who this group of Mothers of America is that everyone hates? Any help with this one? Herman

Reading some old stuff today and this one brought a chuckle!

"Mothers of America" is not at all close to Blue Star Moms of America. From what I've learned as a Mom of a Marine is that "Mothers of America" is a term used for the Moms who think the DI's are too rough on their little boys and try to give advise.

I'm proud to be a Blue Star Mom and thankful I was never a Mother of America

That's about right - when I commented on the fact that my son's barracks at the Island had air conditioning (something that his Nam era Dad never saw), the reply from the kid - with a smirk - was "Thank you monther of America" - it is strictly a smart a** comment when things seem to become easier, simpler or too much civilian input - normally used by Marines with at least one tour in. And since tigger has progressed up the ranks - I hear it more and more, lol.

Which begs the question regarding the "mothers of America" - WWCD? (What would Chesty Do?)

Thanks guys. Now I know what my son was talking about when he said the Mothers of America were crying wanting their sons home for Christmas. He's gonna be a MP instructor and said he isn't gonna be working the 2 weeks at Christmas because of them.
