DoD: Marine death in Iraq under investigation

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — The death of a Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based Marine in Iraq last week is under investigation, according to the Defense Department.
Cpl. Reynold Armand, 21, of Rochester, N.Y., died Aug. 7 in Balad after being medically evacuated from Anbar province, according to an II Marine Expeditionary Force press release.
Officials could not confirm whether Armand was one of two Marines that the Defense Department reported to have died in Iraq last week, one in a non-combat incident and another in combat.
Armand, a member of Headquarters Company, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, at Lejeune, was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, II MEF, in Iraq.
He joined the Corps on Aug. 27, 2003, and joined 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion on March 22, 2005, as a food service specialist. He was promoted to corporal on Sept. 1.
