The start of a ground war against Iraq means only one thing to Mariane Coudriet. The sooner it starts, the sooner her husband Marc can come home.
With 19 years in the military, Marc Coudriet volunteered to leave his safe job as a corrections officer at the Camp Lejeune brig to deploy with military units to Kuwait. He left Jacksonville on Feb. 1. The last she heard, he was at Camp Fox, a Marine base in Kuwait and home to Lejeune’s 2nd Force Service Support Group. He’s managed to make a few calls home, including one to tell her he was promoted to master sergeant and one just before the shooting started.
“All I can do is remember the last thing he said on the phone to me,” she said Thursday. “As soon as it starts, that is the beginning of him coming home and that’s the way I have to look at it.
