Brig. Gen. Darrell Moore relinquished command Friday of Marine Corps Mobilization Command to Maj. Gen. Andrew Davis, a 37-year veteran.

The assignment marks Davis’ third command as a Reserve flag officer; previous assignments include commanding general of 4th Force Service Support Group in New Orleans and of II Marine Expeditionary Force Augmentation Command Element.

Davis has also served as director of public affairs for the Marine Corps.

He will manage the service’s Individual Ready Reserve, a cadre of more than 60,000 former active and Reserve Marines.

On Sunday, Moore assumed command of 4th Marine Logistics Group, headquartered in New Orleans, during a morning ceremony in Atlanta.

Moore replaces Maj. Gen. (select) Eugene Payne, who is to become the assistant deputy commandant for installations and logistics, based in Arlington, Va.

As head of MobCom, Moore was instrumental in developing programs to maintain contact with IRR Marines and ease their transition into the Corps when involuntarily recalled.

As commander of 4th MLG, he’ll be responsible for overseeing combat service support for Marine Reserve forces.

Payne, who assumed command of 4th MLG in 2005, will assist in managing Marine bases, buildings and facilities worldwide.
