Three men have been captured and are accused of deserting the U.S. Marines.

Corcoran police arrested Zachary Leonard, 21, originally from Georgia, Joshua Spangler, 22, of Tennessee, and William Duffy, 22, of Michigan, Thursday.

Cmdr. Gary Cramer of the Corcoran Police Department said the three men were based at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside.

Their rank, unit, or how long they have allegedly been Away Without Leave is uncertain.

However, The Sentinel has put in a formal request for more information regarding the incident and the suspects to Camp Pendleton officials, and is awaiting a response.
On Wednesday, Corcoran police officers received a tip that two Marines wanted for military desertion were staying at Corcoran residence.

It is unclear which two of the suspects were rumored to be at the residence.

The next day, at 1:34 p.m., officers went to a residence on the 1600 block of Norboe Avenue.

They reportedly found Leonard hiding in the backyard, Spangler hiding inside the bathroom, and Duffy in the living room.

Cramer said he does not know how the suspects ended up in Corcoran, and did not know much else, saying police have already turned the case and the suspects over to the Marine Corps.

There are no plans to prosecute the residents of the home in which police found the accused Marines.
