Hey guys, posted a few months back, Former Army Infantryman with 2 combat tours to Iraq, 23 years old, currently in the IRR. Have been talking to a recruiter recently, but he's new to recruiting and not familar with the USMCR. So figured I'd ask my questions here.

1. Are college students the only ones allowed to go through the "92-day reservist" program?

2. Are all MOS's egilible to go through the "92-day reservist" program?

3. How soon should I expect to report for MCT after bootcamp? I ask because I have heard Marines in the USMCR not going for a while, or at all even.

4. 0231 (Intelligence Specialist) is probably what i'm looking at going for, do Marines in the USMCR also go through the school in Virginia or does the USMCR have a Seperate school?

5. Are POVs allowed when you're in a tech. school?

6. What should I expect to do on a drill weekend once my training is complete?

7. Has anyone worked with the 1st Battalion 25th Marines out of New England? I'm in Boston, MA, so i'm curious to what I expect as far as good leadership, morale, etc.

8. Have any of you worked with prior Army? What could I expect to see as far as promotions go in the USMCR? I'll be comming in as a PFC, I consider myself a squared away individual, hardworker, and in pretty good shape.

Thats about all I have for now, thanks.

1. Yes. You'll need documentation regarding your first day of school in the fall following recruit training. They are contractually obligated to release you from active duty on time so you can get back to college.

2. No. Only MOS's whose course length will fit in a single summer along with MCT are eligible. Again, they are contractually obligated to fit the active duty training between spring and fall college terms.

3. For 92 day'ers, MCT is just before MOS in the next summer after recruit training camp. For all others, you'll get 10 day leave after recruit training and then report back to SOI for the next MCT cycle.

I'll wait to see if any 02's answer your other questions before I give you a guess.

Yes, you will be a PFC, but for one ... Intel promotes FAST, and you will have points already towards a cutting score I believe, for time in service and all that trash.

Thats about all I have for now, thanks.[/quote]

Can anyone tell me if with me being in the Marine Reserves, would I immediately attend my MOS school after MCT, or would I basically be a on stand-by list waiting to get a slot for my MOS school?

You would report immediately to your school after MCT. You will be in a MAT (Marines Awaiting Training) program until your class cycle starts up.

Yes sir

2. Are all MOS's egilible to go through the "92-day reservist" program?

Negative sir. If your MOS requires schooling that exceeds 92 days then obviously the 92 day thing cannot apply.

3. How soon should I expect to report for MCT after bootcamp? I ask because I have heard Marines in the USMCR not going for a while, or at all even.

If you're in the 92 day program then the summer after boot camp or not at all even. If you're going straight through then 10 days is standard.

4. 0231 (Intelligence Specialist) is probably what i'm looking at going for, do Marines in the USMCR also go through the school in Virginia or does the USMCR have a Seperate school?

All Marines go through the same school regardless of active or reserve.

5. Are POVs allowed when you're in a tech. school?

Not sure...

6. What should I expect to do on a drill weekend once my training is complete?

Ask a Marine Reservist...

7. Has anyone worked with the 1st Battalion 25th Marines out of New England? I'm in Boston, MA, so i'm curious to what I expect as far as good leadership, morale, etc.

Well I assume you're a Specialist or even a Sergeant...should've stayed Army. Being a PFC sucks. But anyway being prior army should put you a step ahead of your peers right out of the civilian world. If you're motivated and all that promotions should come in time.

Thats about all I have for now, thanks.

We had reserve Marines in my MCT platoon that had almost two years TIS. They went to boot camp one summer, then MOS school. And were going back to MCT. Heck one even went to boot.. admin school... jump school.. and then MCT. When we left MCT he had orders to SERE school. He was also in a ANGLICO unit though.

The questions have been answered pretty well except about 1/25. It has been a while, but last I heard they were a well run group of motivated Marines. The leadership was solid and well focused.

The rule on POV's varies from school to school. Almost all schools do not allow you to have a POV but they do make exceptions for schools that are particularly long. But since you're doing 92 day reservist then plan on not having a POV. You'll get the joys of traveling like the rest of us...taxi's and buses lol. I swear I've put the owner of "yellow cab's" kids through college by now.

We ripped 1/25 in saqlauwiyah. They werent terrible, but the werent like an A.D. battalion either. But 7+ months in the "Saq" can drain a mans soul, so I dont hold it against them. Im not sure how it works in the Army, But Im guessing most of the Higher ups and Marines that I met from 1/25 will be gone, and it will be a totally new battalion by the time you get there. I believe most Battalions are basicly the same anyway.
