BARRINGTON — Writers from across the country, including a local publicist, have joined forces to craft a book to honor the troops who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Faces of Freedom" profiles 52 soldiers — one fallen service member from each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico — and all of the book's proceeds will go to charity.

Marci J. Hait, of the public relations firm Bisson Barcelona, served as both a senior editor and as the New Hampshire writer by contributing the story of Col. Timothy M. Gibson, of Merrimack.

"It is truly an honor to be involved in such a wonderful project," said Hait. "I have a huge amount of respect for America's heroes and their families, and I cannot give enough credit to Rebecca Pepin, who made this book a reality."

Hait was one of many nationally acclaimed authors, writers, military veterans and print and broadcast journalists who donated their time to "Faces of Freedom." All proceeds from the sales of Faces of Freedom will go to Fisher House (www.fisherhouse.org) and the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org), two organizations that aid wounded veterans and their families.

Gen. Colin Powell said, "The stories in 'Faces of Freedom' are true stories — stories of service, sacrifice, pride and love. The stories will remind you that America has been blessed with greatness in every generation and no generation has shown greater valor than our current generation of heroes in Iraq and Afghanistan. Read and be inspired."

In addition to Powell, Sen. John McCain and American Legion National Commander Paul A. Morin have also commented on the book's homage to America's heroes.

Gibson, a Marine, was killed on Jan. 26, 2005, when the CH-53E helicopter he was traveling in crashed. Thirty other Marines died in the same accident. Hait, who wrote the piece about the young Marine, is a publicist at Bisson Barcelona, a firm in Barrington, and a former editor at Seacoast Media Group.

"Faces of Freedom" can be purchased and donations can be made by visiting Amazon.com or editorial director Rebecca Pepin's Web site at www.rebeccapepin.com.
