This was written yesterday by 12 year old Robbie, son of a Royal Marine serving in Iraq with 40 Commando.
I lie here alone, wondering in my bed,
Will things change when this dictator is dead?
More so I wonder for selfish reasons,
If my dad did not fight would he be tried for treason?
The problem I have is his oath to the Queen,
You see I'm the son of a Royal Marine.
My mum sits and cries when she watches the news,
She had to give up her job, and can't afford new shoes.
You see it's not just the Iraqi's that suffer.
Just look at the despair on my poor lonely mother.
My sisters are young, and are always crying,
They're too young to realise people are suffering and dying.
My dad's NOT a monster; he's a good man at heart,
But it's tearing our loyalties and this family apart.
People shout out NO WAR, do you think that we want it?
I'd rather have my dad home, but I know I can't have it.
War is messy; war is bad but at least those who are shouting
go home to their dad's. I dont , but I don't see green.
You see I'm the proud son of a Royal Marine.
