I am not impressed by the Haditha investigation as done by NCIS. If my detectives did this kind of homicide investigation, they'd be back in patrol shaking doorknobs, or out of a job, in a heartbeat (depending on whether they lied or were just f*cked up).

An honest, competent investigator ALWAYS looks for exculpatory evidence as well as inculpatory information. Those are the keys words, honest and competent.

I had a number of dealings with NCIS (then NIS) in the 1970's. One before I became an MP and quite a few afterward. I was not impressed by them then and having been a civilian police officer, detective, and detective supervisor, I am even less impressed now.

NCIS, in general, is over-rated and not competent enough to handle anything more serious than cases of Mopery with Intent to Gawk. I'm sure by shear accident they have one or two good investigators, but they haven't been assigned to the Haditha case.

Zulu 36++_+ the ncis is still a bunch of worthless bums. My Navy son lost over $4000.00 in a pick-up truck on e-bay about 4 months ago. They are supost to help the troops in cases like this. They won't do anything to help. The guy is still posting on e-bay with the same name and same telaphone #.

Somehow I'm not surprised. The only bunch worse than NCIS (if possible) is the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). Aside from being some serious secret squirrels, they are just plain squirrelly anyway. They've got some really swollen egos for a bunch of people who are essentially property crimes detectives.

Perhaps your son can make a complaint via the FBI if the perpetrator is a civilian. I'm not 100% certain if that is the correct agency, it could be the Secret Service. But the FBI can direct you if it isn't them.

I'm not an FBI fan either, but sometimes you got to deal with them. I like the Secret Service and the US Marshals; they've been much more efficient in my experience.

Sometimes local PDs can handle those cases, depending on state laws. Keeping as low as possible on the law enforcement "food chain" often increases the chance the case will be pursued.

Cop Trivia: Which federal law enforcement agency has the legal authority to enforce the most federal laws? Hint: It isn't the FBI.
