Foundation awards free books to Marines

The Sgt. John Basilone Foundation based on Hilton Head Island begins the second year awarding free books on Sgt. Basilone's life to honor recruit graduates each week at Parris Island and San Diego recruit depots.
Referred to as "Manila John," Basilone is the only enlisted Marine from WWII to be awarded the Medal of Honor, the Navy Cross and the Purple Heart.
The Basilone Foundation now is a member of the Community Foundation of the LowCountry. Contributions to help with the free book program or to support injured Marines may be made to the community foundation marked "Basilone."
