Sniper could not cut spirit of soldier

A sniper's bullet ended Sgt. Ryan German's second tour in Iraq 13 months ago, sending the Shippensburg man stateside with the freedom to leave the Marine Corps for medical reasons.
German chose to stay in the Marine Corps while his wounds healed, and he extended his contract so he could volunteer for a third trip to Iraq.
That third tour is approaching quickly. German is finishing a two-week visit home prior to a July 18 departure for Iraq.
Ryan's mother, Sue, arranged a “meet and greet” night for the 22-year-old Marine tonight at Shippensburg's American Legion Post 223. She says the event is an opportunity for Ryan to “meet with the general public and see friends and family” he hasn't had the chance to visit during the brief two-week period.
For Ryan German, the evening is an opportunity to shine the light on what U.S. military forces are doing in Iraq.
