I was born August of 1940 a year before World WarII.
My first recollections about World War II as a five year old.
Was my family praying for the safety of my four uncles serving in the Army.
Then came Korea, at that time only one was still serving.
He survived that conflict.
Then it was my turn, after enlisting in the Marine Corps in December of 1957.
Missiles of October in 1962.
We deployed with Charlie Company 1st Recon Battalion.
Early 1965, we deployed to Vietnam with Bravo Company 3rd Recon Battalion.
I was in India Company 3rd Battalion 4th Marines dued to the need of NCO's.
We rotated back stateside because our tour with the 1st Marine Brigade had ended.
September of 1966 we deployed as replacements to the 1st. Marine Division in Vietnam.
We served with 1st FSR for three months,
Next, we were assigned to Golf Company 2nd Battalion 1st Marines.
Never knew if they were praying, when I was over there.
Now on the eve of this war.
We feel that prayer might be in need.
You are trained to do any job assigned to you.
One draw back of having all-volunteer forces.
Many feel detached from the military.
As Ted Rall said and he might have been talking for many.
“They volunteered and they must have known that this might happen.”
Because some were talking about fear.
Everyone going into an unknown has fear.
If you do not have fear, something wrong.
Fear of many things, how will you react, will you be able to lead if you are in a position of leadership.
I read that as veterans get older, they tend to get pacifist.
My belief that it is more a matter of not wanting other young men.
Going to where you been before and been subjected to what you had to endure.
The politics and diplomacy are over, now the warriors have a job to do.
It is the job of the nation to support them.
Warrior detest war because they see the insanity of it all.

"Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air."
~ John Quincy Adams ~

The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve
in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their Nation.
~ George Washington ~

and the truth shall set you free"

Well said Ricardo. I am a Vietnam vet as well and there is many thoughtful moments in comparing that long ago war with whats going on now. It is our job to support the troops and the nation.

Wether you support war or oppose it, our troops should know that the country is behind them 100%. We need to put aside our differences with the protesters and pull together as a nation in support of our leadership and our military.
