I received a telephone call from the 1stSgt of the bulk fuel platoon in Texarkana,Texas the other day.My 23year old nephew is a UA Marine Reservist. I called because he came to Jacksonville,NC before Thanksgiving 2002 under the pretense that he was to relocate and get a job here.Well,he didn't get a job and the excuses he was giving other family members were starting to smell fishy,so I made some phone calls.I learnt on the computer that his reserve units main body was activated. He was staying with his Mother whom left the state because of being transferred for her work,in mid January. All he had to do is pay the utilities on the place and feed him and his wife. Well the lights got cut off and he went to stay with my Mother-in-law,who is on a fixed income. He was bumming cigarettes,gas,money,ect....she was giving him food and a place to stay.Well, she started questiong about finding work and he started to sweat, when he was questioned about the reserves he left her home. The little puke went to stay with his Father who was given his "Big Chicken Dinner" for desertion about ten or so years ago. After being on the run for about nine years. My nephew won't come to see my wife or I because he knows I know, and I don't approve. After this long story.... The First Sgt. told me that they no longer activate reservists for not attending their weekend drills they just give them an administrative discharge. I also was told calling the civilian authorities would do no good, they would not go after a reservist unless he got in civil trouble.I guess I am from the old school I believe your word means allot and if you make a comittment you should stick to it. I was never in the reserves but I know allot of people who were and I was told it was not very hard...do your job and attend meeting and stay squared away. This little coward got scared when he found out his unit was to be activated and he ran. Any suggestions and or coments?

A coward is a coward is a coward. It makes my blood boil because he is/was one of us. I can not call him what we ourselves are.

Family or no family he should be run up the flagpole.War has just started.Nobody likes to fight, but running is not the way. Yes he is a coward and it p***es me off!It would be better for me if I don't have to deal with this puke again.....At one time I was proud of him but that all has flown out the window now.I don't claim him ANYMORE! Blood is thicker than water as the saying goes, but I have seen plenty of my fallen brothers and comrades blood who did not run when the sh*t hit the fan and it started to get tough and lives were lost. This is a hard situation to deal with....an admin discharge is not a way to deal with this. Keep the comments coming it nice to know I am not the only one who thinks like this!Semper-Fi!! still:mad:
I would NOT even call him an Ex-Marine.

I knew a guy who missed a few too many drill weekends and got activated - only had to serve a couple years. He made a pretty good Marine too. They should activate this kid and put him on the next transport to the Middle East. Short of that, a dishonorable for desertion. His unit was activated at a time when his country called - in my mind, that makes it a bit different.

Phantom -
Run the flagpole UP his arse.... then process for the BCD.
Leaner softer military. Fundamental changes.
Yeah, we're at war, and they let people just 'go' anymore.
Yeah, and at the same time - they'd take me back in?
But by God - Chesty Puller was given a General Court Marshal for being 10 minutes UA - FOR FORMATION!!!!!!!!!!
I lost 2 stripes for missing a DRILL!!!!!! IN 1984!!!
Kiss my ass. F***in politicians. Capitulation. All they do is capitulate in order to achieve a goal. Or, to get re-elected.
NOW...... for you youngin's out there - Poolee's: I hope yer paying close attention.
The key word here is : EXPENDABLE - you are an expendable resource to the Government and politicians of this nation. After your discharge, you will recieve a BAR CODE. This will notate the entirety of your military service. Honor, Integrity, Principle NOTWITHSTANDING!!!!!!!
DEAL WITH IT.

Every hard-boiled egg is yellow inside.Anonymous I was told that his Mother was not going to be told because, they didn't want her to worry! Well, this really got my blood boiling! What about the Goldstar Mothers/Bluestar Mothers and all family members and comrades past and present... I am keeping a low profile...more behind the line type of thing, then I advance and give another harrassing blow.I want the puke to go back to Texas, and accept his punishment! I will never refer to him as a Veteran,Marine ect...I think even a BCD or Dishonorable is too good for somebody like this.I often wonder if he did not run and stayed with his unit...would he run when the sh*t started ?The answer I keep coming up with is yes!!Even though it is really not known until the situation arises. I would not ask this kid to do anything for me or with me again!I am told through the family network that he made a mistake, well folks everyone makes mistakes and as an adult you are to held accountable for your actions, especially when this type of mistake...in my United States Marine Corps opinion is unacceptable and unforgiveable!I am staying focused and I feel this loser is just like ,the war protesters and the human sheilds. In a sick way I have more respect for those folks, because at least they did something that they believe in.To know what is right and not to do it is the worst cowardice-Confucious Semper-Fi!!:marine:
God, country, family, Corps.
Reservist or not, he's a deserter.
If I were you, I would hunt the little bastard down, take him into custody and turn him over to the nearest command along with the information you have about his missing a movement.
Or, you could just beat the crap out of him. Maybe both, just not in that order...
