In a segment tied both to the July 4 holiday and to PBS' forthcoming series "The War," Ruth Ezell tells the story of the Montford Point Marines, billed as the first African-American Marine unit. The report features Bill Washington of University City, a member of the unit created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1942.
"The War," a 15 1/2 hour documentary epic from Ken Burns, debuts in September. KETC will accompany the series with a community outreach project, "Your Stories: St. Louis Remembers World War II." For more information, visit the project's interactive website: www.ketc.org/yourstories.
