So I just found out today I am in a screwed up situation.
I went to register my car today and the DMV said I had outstanding tickets for a different vehicle. I had sold my old vehicle, and filed all the paper work, but apprently it hadn't gone through. Well the the guy I sold the vehicle to is getting tickets under my name, and I am freaking out. I have no way of contacting him (the number I have has been shut off) and I only remember his first name. I'm hoping I can get this all figured out without having to pay for any of it, but if I do have to pay them myself how bad is that going to affect me before boot camp?
I mean its not just one or two tickets, its about 6 and they are all over due (the notices all went to my mothers house, who neglected to tell me until I called today asking about the situation)
Its one thing to screw up your own life, but to screw up someone elses....:devious:

You have no bill of sale when you sold the vehicle with his full name on it?

I mailed it to the DMV. I was an idiot and didn't make a copy for my records.
My stepdad told me I should report the car stolen, since it is legally still in my name, and find him that way.

Before you report the car stolen call your county magistrate and ask for advice. Since you did sell the car and $$ changed hands. That's what they are there for besides locking you up.

Thats what I was going to do, sir. I'm printing all the financial records tonight of the deposit from his payment (too bad it was cash), which would match the bill of sale date if they can find it. Plus I purchased my "new" car that same day, so hopefully that gives me enough ground to stand on.
As ****ed off as I will be I will pay it if I have to, I just don't want it to affect me before, during, or after boot camp.

A) You need to notify DMV that you no longer have control of the vehicle.
B) For each ticket, you need to present your evidence that you sold that vehicle prior to the date of the ticket. This will need to be done with each agency that issued the ticket, ie City of San Jose, University parking, etc.
C) Teach your mom to forward important mail to you.

Also if you work, cross reference the time of the tickets, with the individual who signed them (if possible) and also present your work times to prove you were not driving the car (also if possible)

I will do that sir, thank you. I actually just finished notifying the DMV and will be double checking on the processing tomorrow as well as contacting the necessary authority to try and have the tickets removed completely.
Ha, she did it on purpose. She doesn't want me joining the Marines and she knows if I don't keep on top of everything I can be denied entry. She didn't tell me about my current vehicles registration coming in the mail until about 2 weeks ago, even though she had it for about a month... and didn't mention a thing about past due ticket notices until I asked about recieving anything today. Luckily almost everything has been changed to my current address, so it shouldn't be a problem anymore.
So I'm going to let my recruiter know whats going on, but I am wondering if I should give him my documents if I get any, after I clear this up?

bgsuwoody- thanks for the advice, thats a good idea. especially because the tickets are on the complete opposite end of town from my work.
