Tricare will begin covering anesthesia services and associated costs for dental treatment for beneficiaries with developmental, mental or physical disabilities, and children age 5 or under, beginning July 1.

Also, Tricare will reimburse eligible beneficiaries who received those services between Oct. 17 and July 1, under a legislative change mandated last fall by the 2007 Defense Authorization Act, Tricare officials said.

Eligible beneficiaries or their sponsors should contact their Tricare regional contractor for help with reimbursement.

“Tricare will do all that is possible to ensure that beneficiaries receive the appropriate payment for these services received since Oct. 17,” said Army Maj. Gen. Elder Granger, Tricare’s deputy director.

The change in law does not cover the actual dental care services. That coverage is available through the Tricare Dental Program and Tricare Retiree Dental Program.
