MARINE CORPS AIR STATION BEAUFORT, S.C. — Navy Secretary Donald Winter awarded a Bronze Star with combat “V” to Gunnery Sgt. Adan Morones on Monday for his service in Iraq disarming improvised explosive devices.

Morones, an explosive ordnance disposal technician with 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, was deployed from October 2005 to September 2006.

The award citation states Morones demonstrated superior performance during 21 IED missions in and around the “Denver” area of operations. During one mission, Morones disarmed three IEDs before leading his fellow devil dogs safely out of the area.

Winter praised Morones for his service. Sgt. Maj. Carlton Kent, sergeant major of the Marine Corps, also attended the ceremony.

In a brief statement after the ceremony, Morones said that he was honored to receive the award and was most happy that his entire unit returned alive.
