By: North County Times -
OCEANSIDE -- A man who was shot as he allegedly attempted to hold up an Oceanside liquor store Saturday night was identified Monday as a 20-year-old Marine, police said.
Lance Corp. Mckenzie Smith was reportedly shot and wounded by a clerk after he demanded cash at gunpoint from Big Liquor in the 600 block of Redondo Drive, police Sgt. Leonard Mata said.
Smith sustained multiple gunshot wounds and collapsed about a block from the store, Mata said. He was taken by medical helicopter to a local trauma center for treatment and his injuries do not appear life-threatening, he said.
An investigation is ongoing and detectives are working to determine whether this robbery is related to a series of holdups this month that have hit about six Oceanside businesses.
