I just got a letter from Achped. He seems to be having a good enough time at PI. He's been their guide since they picked up, so he's doing well enough for himself.
He doesn't want his address just given out to anyone, but if any of you Marines want it, shoot me a PM.

Good news indeed. As tall as he is, their guidon should be seen across the island. :D

How long has he been there now?

Good to hear...glad to see he's making something for himself. Though I am really not surprised! Hope to hear more soon!

I wonder how Johnson is doing.......................
If any of you Poolees want to add a note to Matt, post it and I'll throw them in with the card I got for him.

I would like to know however, if this is in anyway possible, if Achped volunteered to be guide or if he was choosen. If he was choosen, I wouldn't mind knowing why?

Woody----sigh------who knows how the SDI chooses the first guide! He may have just noticed he was the tallest man in the platoon, or maybe Matt had JROTC---who knows! There is no requirements for the job, but I don't think you can volunteer for it, it is picked by the SDI! I mean what do you think he walked up and said "Hey SDI, I want to be the Guide"? I think not! Would you? I mean I know you have ballz of steel, but--------nah---not even you have that big of a set!

I mean for goodness sake the kid took pictures of himself in someone else's dress blues and sent them to an individual who had the desire to punish him...he could quite possibly do anything...:)
On the other hand, I forgot he was gargantuan in stature and good at PT.
And I have no idea how it works for being guide, I am going to bring home the title and if in the process I become Guide, so be it otherwise, I'll do whatever I have to to be as good or better than the guide...(insert evil smirk here).

Him being selected as guide isn't a surprise to me at all. When platoons first pick up sometimes recruits get lost when they try to find their platoon. Everyone looks the same, is wearing the same thing, and you don't know many people. So, having a guide that is one of the tallest structures at PI would help the less bright recruits find their platoon.

I was just talking about this on chat, but I'm really not surprised if he keeps it though and I wouldn't have expected much less from him

The first few days the guide selected is one of the tallest and oldest in the platoon but by no means is that a permanate position. Matt may have to roll up the guidon, take the pike off, carry it upside down, or turn it over to the biggest rock in the platoon for a couple days. Conversations with him have lead me to believe that it would be very suprising if he didn't graduate carrying the guidon.

Hey ya'll, got one!!! I'm a happy camper now!
As of 6/29/07 he's ..........................back to be Squad Leader and he hates it because he only gets 5 minutes to eat double rats (HAHAHAHAHAHA! They're trying to fatten his lanky a$$ up) - he says he's learned to eat quick but he feels that he's still lacking (cause he's working that a$$ of and staying hungry all the time).
He says..................."BTW it's been easier physically, WAY tougher mentally than I expected. I was broke the fk off in the first week!" (See Poolees/DEPrs - we keep telling everybody this and everybody thinks we're joking. This guy is ON Parris Island RIGHT NOW - HE knows now, it ain't a joke - TRAIN YOUR BRAIN - YOUR BODY WILL FOLLOW).
He closes with........................"Gotta go! DIs are yelling two minutes AGGHH!"
Another U S MArine in the making ya'll!
Ha, Good Stuff. Squad Leader, way to go! Sounds like he's hangin in there.
Stay Motivated!

Well, Achped worked hard on his PT in DEP, so the PT should be a bit easier on him. I don't think there is any 100% way to mentally prepare for the mind games in boot camp.
Being in good shape at the beginning and have a good grasp on your knowledge certainly helps as those will be areas of special concern to the DIs, particularly in 1st Phase. The easier you make their job, the less they will pester you.
Of course, it doesn't save you from their loving attentions all of the time.

Got another letter today. He's done at the range - shot a 219. he's still Squad Leader and they graduate Sept 7.
And Accord - he said you sent him a "letter" and the DI made him put a trashcan on his head and "tossed" him around for it. I'm curious there Flash, what did you send him? Said his Senior told him he was going to fk him sideways, with no lube and sand stuck all over it!!!!! LMFAO!!!
He talks about being out in formation before sun up and the formation only had 70 moonbeams - guess they must have caught hell for all 81 of them not having one cause he made a joke about cars not being able to see them unless they had all 81.
He's on his last leg ya'll.........................we're down to DAYS now!

LOL I must have balls of steel then haha. I volunteered in receiving and then again on black friday. Somehow managed to keep it too. I would like to get his mailing address but I'm not sure if he would even get it in PI since I'm in Oki. He's just gotta stay moto and he'll do fine.

Yeah - he made a small note asking me to not send anything that would get him in trouble. Now, what is the first thing you think I'm gonna do? (I'm STILL a child at heart).

Jcam,,,,, Guess you never got a rib kicked in. I didn't ether, but I wasn't as stupid as some to ask for it.
That is excellent news.
But what is this about dressing up in Dress Blues? I must be missing a story here?

Being the guide during first phase isn't fun. The entire time I would get woken up at around 2am by my kill hat as he jabbed the guideon into my side for about 20 min. Then he would let me fall back asleep and then do it again and again until reveille. About 4 weeks of that and I was pretty worn down. Not to mention the tortures during the day. We did end up beating one of my DI's during 2nd phase though...My rack got flipped at least 5 times a day and would be scattered around in pieces...so one night I took a hammer and bent all the pieces around each other so you could flip the rack but nothing would come apart lol. He'd flip it over and over again but with the same results haha.

lol got punched in the stomach a few times
but whatever, if someone wants to be guide that bad to be brave and ask the SDI for it, it cant be that bad
whats he gonna do? say no and thrash you?
I cannot even begin to comprehend how bad Achped's life is right now. My life was a living hell and every DI on the Island got a piece of me after I got that "care package" with the AF shirt and pink water bottle, etc. - I can't even imagine how bad it must be to receive a picture of yourself wearing dress blues with Sgt. chevrons.
I can't wait to hear from him.

A good one would be a singing card that played
Rod Stewart- "Have I Told You Lately"
You know "Have I told you lately...that I love you....." with some fancy heart stickers, strong womens perfume and this picture inside
http://qrmag.com/assets/boyskissing.jpg
note- its a picture of two guys kissing....just so anybody whose offended by such things doesn't open it.

I agree with E4B completely! This is your best friend? I'd really hate to see what you'd do to someone you don't like! Just think---you guys might very well depend on each other in combat one day.
I like a joke as much as anyone else does, but this is a little over the top for me. I don't think it was funny at all! I would be looking over my shoulder until this is resolved if I had done something like that to a fellow Marine. The Fleet ain't that big. Pay back is a mutha as well.

Achped said to relay this to you other poolees and Marines. Boot Camp is still 13 weeks long! They have implimented "MARINE WEEK", as they now give the EGA on Saturday prior to graduation. They wear thier chevrons and are called Marines for that last week now! :marine:
He also said he had been to the 1/4 deck at least 3 times because of that little piece of mail he got the other day! The whole platoon saw it before he did, but he knows who sent it---I am sure he will be glad to repay the favor at a later time. ;)
He is still squad leader and he scored 219 at the Range (he's not happy about that), first class on his PFT, and is looking forward to graduating and moving on to the Fleet. :marine:

Just got another letter from him. He is getting PFC- he found out when they went to get their service uniforms and the DIs said he needed PFC on them. He shot a 219 on the range, and blamed it on the rain. I guess it better not rain on the battlefield if he's there!
He is excited about getting done. He's getting pretty short. Only bad thing he had to talk about was a picture that got him killed! I can't wait to hear about their reaction to Accord's joke.
PFC? That's good news to hear. Keeping Achped in my thoughts, hope he keeps things going good.

Seeing 500 yards in the rain is a mo'fo! We can barely see it in broad daylight! :D
