First Black Female Combat Pilot Brings Message To Indy

Sun Jun 24, 5:14 PM ET

The first African-American female combat pilot in U.S. history visited Indianapolis over the weekend to deliver a message of passion, purpose and positive steps.

Capt. Vernice Armour is a Cobra helicopter pilot who is now touring the motivational speaking circuit.

Armour served more than eight years in active duty in the U.S. Marines.

Now that she is on leave, Armour is using the lessons she has learned to inspire others.

"I believe my blessing is reaching out and motivating the community, and if I can do that in our society and our community, then I am giving back," Armour said. "Not to give back would be a selfish act."

Armour was the keynote speaker at the second annual scholarship dinner for the DJ Center of Youth.

She is working on a book about her life and message.
