Twentynine Palms Marine Recovering After Pre-Iraq Exercise Injury

A Marine wounded Wednesday during a training exercise at Twentynine Palms is in stable condition.
The Marine was wounded in the chest around noon while role playing during a training exercise known as Mojave Viper.
Marine officials say he was playing the part of an Iraqi in one of two mock Iraqi towns where Marines are trained before being deployed to Iraq.
One Marine returning from Iraq says they take every training precaution very seriously. He also believes the conditions are very safe to train in during the exercise in my opinion, a very safe environment to train in.
Military officials say an investigation is under way to find out exactly how the Marine was hurt and if safety procedures were followed.
They have not released the injured Marine's name.
