If you are in the market for a new TV here are some of the problems I'm having.

We all should know by now your old analog TV will not work without a digital converter soon. Experts are saying even with the converter your old analog TV's picture will not be as good as before.

After being completely satisfied (no repairs) with a 32" Sony TV for over 15 years that takes two men and a boy to carry, I bought another Sony, a 40" Bravia. I chose LCD over Plasma as allot of people have had bad luck with slightly better picture Plasma's that don't last as long as LCD's.

Now I found out the reason why they sell digital audio system's (HTIB home theater's in a box) for the new TV's. The sound really sucks.

I have a 42" Bravia too, and yes, the sound isnt very good straight from the TV, but I knew that before buying it, so I bought a Sony home theater system to go with it, and it rocks! it wasnt too expensive, about $700 and it shakes the house.

NICE..

I have a CRT front projector... shooting 100 inch in HD.... I have a scaler that scales all standard TV and DVD's to 1080i or 720p depending on the input format..

I use HD input when I can get it.. I have not bought a HD DVD or blueray player yet.. I will give it a little while longer and see who wins the format war..

The only down side is that the lights have to be low to maintain a high contrast ratio.. BUT.. with no/very little light you cannot beat the contrast and color quality with any other device... The new digital projectors don't even hold a candle to the PQ of the older projectors...

Heck I am preaching to the choir.. Your rear projection is darn near the same concept...

Picked mine up for 200 bucks... ;)

LOL... Hit the pawn shops... I picked up a nice set of Bose speakers for a song and dance....

I have a definitive technologies sub.... Bose for the left right and surround speakers and a Cerwin vega center channel that mounts behind my movie screen.. (the sound comes from where is is suposed to that way)

I use a Interga 5.2 reciever.. It sounds decent..

I am trying to talk my dad out of his bp 6 's

Don't blow money on the new junk..

IT IS ALL PROPAGANDA.... :p

LOL, HOLM your right about propaganda

Everyone is cheapening the product, charging more for it, and it won't last as long.

The Television Industrial Military Complex conspired with congress to force Americans to buy High Definition TV by February 17, 2009 and those that won't will either have to stand in line to get a digital converter or buy one.

So today, I did a little improvising, adapting, and overcoming. I went over to Home Depot and for $5 bought a 15' audio cable. I came home and hooked it up between my TV audio output and my 20+ year-old Pioneer stereo systems amplifier input & equalizer to the Pioneer speakers.

I found that if I use both the TV and Pioneer speakers simultaneously it sounds real good ! I run the Pioneer amplifier volume a little lower than the TV so I won't have to run over to the remote-less Pioneer Amplifier. So far so good http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif

The Pioneer Speaker's aren't only physically big, once I brought them outside for a Party and they were so powerful they were vibrating my neighbors glass in their windows http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

Bill, I checked and there is a multitude of HTIB Sony speaker systems from $99 to $899. The $899 being the dream system http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Side Note: Has everybody noticed how manufactures are charging you the same or more, for less ?

I've noticed that even toilet paper tubes is getting bigger in diameter and less TP. Over at the building centers, I noticed the the paver bricks are getting noticeably thinner and the price is the same as before. Less for more ! Capitalism : Caveat Emptor

Television Industrial Military Complex :banana::banana::)

Right now I use a Samsung TS 360...

It picks up OTA digital (HD) channels and will scale a DVD image to 720p or 1080i...

Ya can find em all day on flea bay for 40 bucks or so.. Great value IMHO..

10th, I bought the most expensive I could with my budget in mind, and I am very happy with my system. I have no neighbors, so I didnt have to worry about loudness or the bass. Up here in Sundance, a couple of the homes I have been to have systems worth over $50,000. Dont ask me why, but they do. I have yet to find one that is worth that kind of bacon. Most of them sound just like mine, at least I cant tell that much of a difference...maybe it has to do with penis size?

Thanks Bill and Ron,

Both of you guys are sharp and I appreciate your input and maybe we gave some of our brothers a heads up about HDTV...

I went with DLP. Pleased with the picture and sound. (Also have a surround sound system). Now if they would just pump more of the HD to enjoy I might get more of what I expected!

I was pleasantly surprised to see how many more VHF/UHF HDTV digital channels there are compared to the VHF/UHF analog channels.

The wife has the "Dish" satellite receiver and gets her Japan's NHK channel.

That's why I'm computarted, she hogs the frigging TV 24/7 http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/images/icons/icon9.gif

I was just reading the advantages and dis-advantages of having an hdtv large screen tv. I just purchased one at circuit city for over $2K it is a 42"
Hitachi. The speakers are great with built in surrond sound. My problem is that it streches the pictures horizonally and makes everything look like a wide load. The faces look like they were painted with water colors (blotchy) and the tint and color change with the channels. I have Brighthouse digital cable.
Do any of your tvs color change constantly (per channel) and everything looks streched out of size? I am hoping it is just me but don't think so, I probably got taken again.

You should have a menu to format the 4:3 and the `16:9 images...

your TV is 16:9 formated I assume.. you should be able to set it so you get bars in the side to bring the image to the 4:3 format..

I've noticed on my Sony Bravia 40" HDTV the sound looks a bit dubbed as if a second or two delay between the spoken word and the lips, like those old dubbed Chinese Kung Fu movies but not as severe.

The picture is noticeably better than my old CRT TV, but in my opinion the new modern flat TV design doesn't fit well with colonial decor like my Sony 32" light oak CRT console television did. At least you couldn't see all the connection wires to auxiliary components with a console.

I really don't feel like changing the house to match a damn TV http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/02.gif
